Well.... first there was the
MGs, famous in their own
right and as the house
band for Stax Records.
They played on numerous
soul hits and apparently
based their name on MG
cars. Stax said it stood for
Memphis Group to avoid
copyright claims from MG.
The MKGs stands for the Milton Keynes Group so we're following the Stax
approach while paying homage to Booker T and The MGs.
Our band is inspired by The MG's principles of a solid groove, lean guitar and
bass (with both often doubling up) and of course all supporting that unique
Hammond sound.
Sadly The MGs have suffered the loss of both Al Jackson Jnr (drums) and, in
May 2012, Donald 'Duck' Dunn (bass). The MKGs hope to play our part in
keeping their great music current and bringing quality live music to clubs,
pubs, festivals and events.
The MKGs range of songs will not only pay respect to BT & the MGs and the
Memphis sound but to many other blues, soul and jazz artists like Jimmy
Smith, Jimmy McGriff, The James Taylor Quartet, Stevie Wonder, Big Boss
Man, Paul Moran, Steampacket, Brian Auger.....the list goes on.
The MKGs are born!
The MKGs are a four piece
instrumental band with Rob on
Hammond, Brian on guitar, John
on drums and John on bass. All
are experienced musicians who
love what they do and are
dedicated to playing the coolest
grooves to give their audience a
good time.
Introducing the MKGs...
for the very best in soul, blues and jazz
